Most Important: Your Rights

Know Your Rights - Under several acts, Executive Orders, and amendments you are guarenteed these rights:

  • The right to not be denied employment by race, gender, religion, national orgin, etc.

  • The right to proper compensation, which includes (but is not limited to): wages, benefits, health packages, raises, promotions.

  • The right to file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and

    • If the claim is right, be awarded damages of up to $300,00 and no retribution from the employer

    • If the claim is incorrect, the filing employee will face no retribution or backlash from the employer

  • The right to not be terminated based soley, or partially, on race, gender, religion, national orgin, etc.

According to these rights, there should be no reason for the existance of the wage gap. It is illegal, there are ways to prevent and fix any discriminatory action that is taken by an employer. Therefore, the responsibility for the wage gap falls not on the governement and it's legislation, but upon employers to follow affirmative action and unbiased compensation laws, and the employees to ensure that they are being properly paid. We can accomplish both of those tasks in one, by spreading awareness about how real the wage gap actually is, and how much we can do to close it.
